Andrew Byatt, 25 years old has been an International athlete since the age of 15. He is one of the most successful athletes in Cornwall and as a multi talented athlete, has competed across a broad spectrum of events achieving national and international medals within four separate sports. He has been a British team member in three different sports, Surf Lifesaving, Quadrathlon and Triathlon.
At present Andrew’s efforts are focused towards attaining Quadrathlons World Championship Title. Focussing on this event allows him to maintain a fitness level high enough to remain at the top of both surf life saving and triathlon competition, too. He will be aiming to qualify for the British team in all three of these sports for the 2006 season and compete internationally.
He is currently studying Physiotherapy at Plymouth University and completing up to 20 hours of training a week. Andrew is also a qualified swim teacher, RNLI beach lifeguard, sports therapist, kayak coach and a fluent speaker of Japanese.
A member of Perranporth Surf Life Saving Club, He is currently a trained lifeguard and Sports development officer. Transferring knowledge gained to others through coaching he leads swim, board kayak strength and swim training sessions. Enjoying helping others achieve self fulfilment through sport and exercise Andrew has recently seen one of the up and coming juniors within the club achieve a National Gold.
This year saw Andrew fulfil his goal of achieveing British National medals in all three sports of triathlon, quadrathlon and surf life saving in the same season. A feat that has never before been achieved by any other athlete! This included taking the Elite National Quadrathlon title in a course record time of 2:32 mins. In addition to this he has also been a national bronze medallist in a fourth sport, sprint kayaking as a Junior (U18) in 1998.
